Foghat: Fifty-Five Years of Rock & Roll and Still Turning It Up

More than five decades after first making their mark on rock and roll, Foghat continues to prove that the spirit of great live music never fades. With a career built on blues driven guitar riffs, infectious grooves, and electrifying performances, the legendary band remains as passionate about the stage as ever. While many of their contemporaries have stepped away from the road, Foghat continues to tour, record new music, and connect with generations of fans who share their love of classic rock.
Formed in 1971 by drummer Roger Earl and vocalist and guitarist Dave Peverett, known to fans as Lonesome Dave, Foghat emerged from the British blues rock scene with a sound that blended American blues influences with the power of British hard rock. Their early success quickly established them as a force in the genre, leading to a remarkable run of albums and some of the most recognizable songs in classic rock history. From their rendition of Willie Dixon's "I Just Want to Make Love to You" to the unforgettable "Slow Ride," Foghat built a catalog that continues to resonate with audiences around the world.
That legacy is still very much alive in 2026. The band's Twang & Bang Tour has taken them across North America, Hawaii, and Finland, bringing their signature combination of blues, boogie, and straight ahead rock to audiences everywhere. Their live performances remain at the heart of what makes Foghat special, with a chemistry and enthusiasm that reflect a band genuinely enjoying every moment on stage.
The current lineup features founding drummer Roger Earl alongside longtime guitarist and producer Bryan Bassett, guitarist and vocalist Scott Holt, and bassist and vocalist Rodney O'Quinn. Together, they carry the band's musical identity forward while bringing their own experiences and influences to the stage. Holt's background includes years of performing with blues legend Buddy Guy, making his addition a natural fit for Foghat's blues rock foundation. The result is a lineup that honors the band's beginnings while keeping its sound fresh, energetic, and exciting.
Looking ahead, Foghat is celebrating another major milestone with the October 30, 2026 release of Live & Loud Across the U.S.A., a special triple vinyl collection capturing the band doing what they do best. Recorded during performances in cities across America, the release features many live recordings being made available for the first time. More than simply revisiting familiar songs, the collection captures the energy, musicianship, and connection between the band and its audience that have defined Foghat's live reputation for generations.
The release also includes a third vinyl disc featuring Shaken & Stirred by Earl & the Agitators, the blues rock project featuring Roger Earl, Bryan Bassett, Scott Holt, and Rodney O'Quinn. Originally released in 2018, the project explores the musicians' shared appreciation for blues, roots rock, and classic American music. Its inclusion adds another layer to the collection, giving fans a deeper look at the musical chemistry behind the current lineup.
Foghat's continued creative momentum was already on display with the release of their 2023 studio album Sonic Mojo. The record debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Blues/Rock Albums chart and remained in the Top Ten for 34 weeks. Featuring original material alongside inspired interpretations of blues classics, the album demonstrated that Foghat is not simply a band preserving its past. They are still creating, evolving, and finding new ways to share the music they love.
Through lineup changes, personal losses, and more than fifty years in the music industry, Roger Earl has remained committed to keeping Foghat's legacy moving forward. What continues to make the band special, however, is not just its history or recognizable catalog. It is the genuine enjoyment the musicians bring to performing together and the relationship they have built with their fans. Every show is an opportunity to celebrate the music, share the energy, and create new memories.
With Live & Loud Across the U.S.A. celebrating the band's enduring live legacy and the road continuing into 2027, Foghat shows no signs of slowing down. Their story is a reminder that great rock and roll is about more than the era in which it began. It is about the musicians who keep it alive, the fans who continue to show up, and the feeling that comes from hearing a great song played loud.
More than fifty-five years after it all began, Foghat is still turning up the amps, hitting the road, and doing what they have always done best.
The road stretches ahead, the music keeps playing, and the boogie rolls on.
