Sponge is an American alternative rock and post-grunge band formed in Detroit, Michigan in 1992 by lead vocalist Vinnie Dombroski and guitarists Mike Cross and Joey Mazzola. Known for a gritty yet melodic post-grunge sound, they achieved massive mainstream success with their Platinum-selling debut album, Rotting Piñata (1994).
